No Child Left Behind! - Need of the hour!

Kalgidhar Trust announces 1300 free scholarships for children from weaker sections

The Kalgidhar Trust/Society, Baru Sahib, Himachal Pradesh has been serving rural north India for the past 25 years. Setting up a scorching, this unassuming unsung organization has silently worked to leave an enormous positive impact by managing to stall a rapidly declining socio-economic scenario in north India especially Punjab. The Trust started off 25 years back with a one-room school with only 5 students which today has grown into a large chain of 121 schools. Young kids have been brought into the national mainstream by bringing them into low cost rural schools that impart quality value-based education. This saves them from the cancer of drugs and alcohol abuse that has enveloped and choked the rural society of these areas.

Now realizing the imperative need to bring equality and inclusive growth of the rural poor , the Trust has come out with a novel initiative “Vidhya – Har bache da adhikaar” – an education scholarshipscheme for 1300 students of Nursery/KG in their respective AKAL ACADEMIES (Day-Boarding Schools)across north India. The Trust/Society has decided to provide FREE value based education to the kids of weaker sections of the society under the lined vision of Sant Attar Singh Maharaj to “Educate, Empower & Enshrine Rural India”. The 121 Rural Schools are operational in various parts of the country primarily atPunjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh.

The trust ensures that whosoever are selected under this scheme will be provided FREE Education till he/she completes the senior secondary schooling. The estimated total cost of scholarship scheme for the period of 14 years is Rs. 51 Crores. The social impact of the scheme would benefit thousands of landless labourers, BPL, low land holding families, SC/ST/OBC and mazhabi sikhs.

As stated by Baba Iqbal Singh Ji – President of Kalgidhar Trust/Society, Baru Sahib – “This initiative will encourage students from weaker sections of society to get values-based education which in turn will help them to develop as an empowered, active, peaceful and caring citizen". The scheme is dedicated to successful start of project “Akal University – Guru Ki Kashi” by the trust at Damdama Sahib, Saboo Ki Talwandi, Bathinda to enshrine the 4th vision of Guru Gobind Singh ji”
